Final Data Report

The age group 12-17-year-olds is most likely to be a victim of sexual assault, as well as the most likely to be a victim of any violent crime in Canada in 2022, according to Statistics Canada. For my first data report, I chose to look at the incredibly high rate at which 12-17-year-olds fall victim to sexual assault, since it showed a significantly larger increase compared to any other adult age group. While this may still be the most shocking piece of information found in this Statistics Canada dataset, it is also important to note that the same age group is most likely to be a victim of violent crime in general. This statistic encompasses all violent crimes recorded in the Statistics Canada census. The age group 12-17 is 11.3 percent more likely to be a victim of violent crime than its rival adult age group, 18-24-year-olds. It is odd to think that children would be more likely to be victims of violent crimes than adults. 12-17-year-olds are 30.2 percent more likely to be vict...

Chart Question: Why are children aged 12-17 far more likely to be victims of sexual assault than all the other adult age groups? Link and brief summary This Health Canada report explains that Children are more likely to be victims of sexual abuse than adults because they are most vulnerable. 75% of offenders are adults, and even more often the offenders know their victim on a personal level. The report explains that being young and dependant on an adult is a major point of risk. Child victims also tend to be less likely to report their abuser right away or ever because the adult abuser is capable of easily manipulatting a child. Children that are sexually abused tend to grow up with more mental and physical problems than those who have not been, and 40 % of adult sexual abusers have admitted to being sexually assaulted as a child. This ties in to my big question,"Why are children aged 12-17 far more likely to be victims of sexual assault than all other ...

The 12-17 years old age group is victim to sexual assault at a rate of 417.89, while the group below, 18-24 years old falls victim to sexual assault at a rate of 221.1. This shows that youth are almost twice as likely to fall victim of sexual assault than young adults are. Each age group shows a sharp decline with the least likely age group being 65 years and older. This age group sits at a rate of 9.82, meaning that ages 12-17 are over 46 times more...

1. What dataset will you use for your final report? (title of your dataset, include a link to it and claim it at the URL above). I will be using that data set Victims of police-reported violent crime and traffic violations causing bodily harm or death, by age of victim and type of violation. The Graph I have chosen for my data visualization is a map graph of the United States of America, showing the life expectancy by state as of 2018. At the top right corner we can see the arrow pointing to the graph's legend, with the lowest life expectancy starting at 74.4 years old at the lightest shade blue. The oldest life expectancy is 81 years old, at the darkest shade of blue. We can gather that the age between these two will vary by the shade of blue. I would like to start by critiquing this map by saying that the choice of graph was poorly chosen. I see where the creator wanted to use a map because we are looking at different states, but there is no way to see the exact age that is in each state, it is purely an estimate. The shades of blue only give us an idea of what is higher or lower, but there can be no way to tell what the average ages of each state are. When we look at Washington and Organ, they are so similar in color that it is hard to say if they are the same o...
